The Sixth District PTA proudly honors Barbara Emerich’s extraordinary service by awarding two $750 scholarships to high school seniors who best exemplify her dedication to youth and families.
For more than 50 years, Barbara Emerich served in PTA leadership roles at the local, regional, and state levels. She had an unwavering commitment to children and families with a particular focus on juvenile justice, gun safety, adolescent health, and special education, and the Sixth District PTA is proud to honor her legacy by awarding scholarships to two graduating high school seniors who best demonstrate her spirit of service through meaningful volunteer work that supports youth and families.

Eligibility
Currently a 2025-2026 high school senior planning to attend a 2- or 4- year college in Fall 2026
Currently a student and PTA/PTSA member of a high school within Sixth District PTA
Has community service/volunteer experience with a non-profit or other organization that supports advocacy, education, counseling, mentoring, or tutoring that positively impacts the lives of all children and families
Application Procedure
Complete the application providing two outside references.
Write an essay describing your community service or volunteer experience with a non-profit or other organization focused on advocacy, education, counseling, mentoring, or tutoring. Include how this experience has positively impacted the lives of children and families in your community, and what lessons you have learned that you will carry into your future college experience. *must be minimum 250 words, maximum 750 words
Application Deadline is 10:00pm Monday, April 20, 2026
Finalists may be called for a phone interview
Selections will be announced May 2026
Scholarship monies will be awarded after providing proof of Fall 2026 college registration
